Panama, 1887-1936, presentation album given to President Franklin Roosevelt. Originally offered in the FDR collection sale on Feb 5, 1946, the description read in part: "Magnificent leather bound Presentation album, 14.5"x9.5" gold embossed with inscription 'Sellos De Panama' and metal coat of arms; parchment pages with silk ribbon, pockets interleaved by pages with printed inscription regarding the various issues. The album contains about 470 stamps, issues of 1887-1936, nearly all o.g. or unused, mostly blocks of 4 with many compl sets….The album is bound in special wooden case with plush lining with inlaid lid, showing map of Panama." The album now contains over 450 stamps so some stamps have been removed since the FDR sale. Also, at some point a few 1930s-40s Portugal souvenir sheets were added, for convenience of storage, by a later collector. The catalog value of course is considerably greater than it was in 1946. Includes block of 4 sets such as Scott #214-16, 218-19, 220-31 and 244-55, some NEVER HINGED. Small piece is chipped off at the bottom corner of lid. It is impossible to know whether or not this was the case originally. Every page bears the H.R. Harmer-Roosevelt collection handstamp on the reverse and a copy of the original catalog is included.
